Mike Baker is an award-winning and published fine art photographer based in the Chicagoland area.
Two of his greatest passions in life are travel and photography. Traveling on family vacations as a youngster helped to develop Mike’s desire to see places outside of his home state of Maryland. Further travel through previous military and current work assignments further broadened his view of the world via experiencing other cultures. Mike has been very fortunate to have traveled throughout North America, Europe and Asia (China), including his most recent adventures to Cuba. Both travel and photography has made Mike better appreciate his own home and culture as well as the people and lands he’s visited.
Photography is an art of observation. It offers a creative outlet that allows Mike to capture interesting subjects in an ordinary place, transforming it into something extraordinary.
Over the course of his photographic journey, Mike has developed that inner eye, that "3rd Eye" that provides perception beyond ordinary sight. His work is most notable in the area of architecture, cityscape, and long exposure monochrome photography. Mike takes time to study his subjects, searching for patterns, shapes, light and shadow, and develops the image from this standpoint. Offering a surreal quality, Mike's images offer visions that often remain observed with suggested interpretations open to one's imagination.
Mike's images are available for sale. If interested, please contact Mike (see Contact link) with details and pricing info can be provided.
As a photographer,
“One doesn’t stop seeing. One doesn’t stop framing. It doesn’t turn off and on. It’s on all the time.”
– Annie Leibovitz
